For lawyers new to federal criminal law, this program offers practical tips on how to approach a key component of this practice: motions to suppress evidence. It will be conducted by a former United States Magistrate Judge and two white collar defense attorneys with extensive experience practicing criminal law in federal court, one as a former prosecutor for the United States Attorney's Office and the other as a former Federal Public Defender. The program's first segment will explain steps practitioners should take to identify legal issues that can provide a basis for filing motions to suppress and a brief overview of the legal principles that support them. The second segment will be a mock suppression hearing, where the instructors will demonstrate how a hearing on a motion to suppress is likely to be conducted using case materials from an actual suppression hearing.
Participants can attend in-person or remotely. The event will be hosted by ADR Services, Inc. at its location in downtown Los Angeles. Food and drinks will be provided to those attending in-person, but space will be limited and offered on a first come first served basis.
